Group Psychotherapy is a wonderful way to explore several areas of life that are hard to get at in individual psychotherapy.  In group, a person is challenged to consider how they relate to a variety of different persons.  Further, a person gets feedback from other group members on these ways of relating.  We all are shaped by our past.  Group illuminates some of the ways a person has learned to interact with others and helps them practice new ways of interacting. Because group members don't have outside contact, the relationships have a level of safety not seen in personal relationships.  This frees people to explore parts of themselves that may be inhibited in other places in their lives.

In my experience, group psychotherapy is at least as effective (if not more so in some cases) than individual therapy.  The combination is generally superior to either. Right now, I have 3 ongoing groups. Two are in person groups and the third is online for persons outside of the Triangle Area.  The groups I run are co-ed and co-facilitated with a trusted colleague.  All groups require a 6-month minimum commitment and have a weekly fee, regardless of attendance.  Please look at the fees page for more info.  Groups are 75 minutes per week.  For more information about group psychotherapy in general, click here, and for more information about my groups, see below:

Weekly Interpersonal Process Groups
Location: 2 Local NC Groups that are currently back to meeting in person; both are ongoing groups with 1 year commitment
Cost: $100.00 per group for NC groups (in-person), $125.00 for DC/NoVa clients (tele-health platform) -- both are weekly fees.
  • we offer a moderate sliding scale, for those who would like to do group but cannot afford the full weekly rate.

Description of Group:

We believe that relationships are key to our emotional wellbeing. That’s why the main focus in therapy is the way we connect with others—whether it’s with a partner, at work, or with friends or family. Sometimes it’s hard to find relationships that feel good. Other times, we have people in our lives but struggle to feel truly close or safe with them. Relationships might feel like too much work, filled with conflict or distance, and we’re not always sure why.

The ways we relate usually start in childhood, especially in our families. Some of those habits work for us as adults—and some don’t. In group, since members don’t usually have ties outside the space, there’s room for real, honest feedback. That kind of feedback can help us notice things we might miss and learn how to build more authentic and meaningful relationships. Group therapy gives us a chance to look at those patterns in a safe space, alongside others who are also exploring how they relate. It’s a place to get curious about what gets in the way and to try out new ways of connecting.

One of the strengths of group therapy is that you’re not just getting one perspective—you’re hearing from multiple people with different points of view. That can give you a clearer, more well-rounded sense of how others experience you, and help you grow in how you relate to the people in your life.
